SAMENVATTING 
Aim of this project is to provide new knowledge on the presence and functionality of the CENH3 gene complex in a polyploid ornamental crop. It will establish its role in chromosome separation during cell division in the zygote and embryo. The project also delivers knowledge on the possibilities to apply the recently developed CRISPR/Cas9 technology in knocking out gene functions in a polyploid ornamental crop. This will not only lead to new methods and tools to be applied in chrysanthemum breeding, but potentially opens up similar applications in other crops, being polyploid or not and being ornamental or not.
